Все просто – образования не хватает. И потому в мире, где происходит действие, Бог Смерти поставил обучение своих помощников и кандидатов на роль божественного оружия на научную основу, создав Оружейный Институт, расположенный, конечно же, в Пропащем Городе. Учатся в институте две категории студентов – те, кто способен превращаться в одушевленное оружие, и их напарники-мастера (называемые еще техниками). Оружие и мастер работают в паре, а лучший из кандидатов по итогам обучения получает возможность служить Косой Смерти - оружием самого бога. История вращается вокруг трех групп студентов: очень старательной Маки в паре с Солом (он превращается в косу), нарутообразного Черной Звезды в паре с Цубаки (она превращается в любое оружие ниндзя) и помешанного на симметрии Смерти-младшего, работающего с сестричками Пэт и Лиз (превращаются в пистолеты). Как и в любом вузе, процветает семейственность – Мака, например, дочь нынешней Косы Смерти, а Смерть-младший - вообще сын божий.
